Democratic Communiqué, a publication of Union for Democratic Communications, is a North American-based peer-reviewed journal dedicated to examining all forms of mediated and communicative phenomena and issues from critical materialist perspectives that foreground their historical, political, and institutional underpinnings. Potential topics may include, but are not limited to, alternative, community, or public media, the internationalization of capital and information flows, media and imperialism, telecommunication and media industry ownership and consolidation, information technology and surveillance, feminist political economy, the communicative dimensions of race, social class, labor and social movements, and cultural artifacts or practices.
All manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer-review by appropriate editorial board members and/or guest reviewers. As of 2009 submissions applying legal or historical approaches to research should use the Notes-Bibliography citation system of The Chicago Manual of Style, 15th ed. rev. (University of Chicago Press, 2003). All other submissions should conform to the Author/Date citation system of Chicago Style. For further information on correct preparation of your manuscript please visit www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide.html. Manuscripts should be double-spaced throughout with a detachable title page containing the principal author’s full contact information and should not exceed 8,000 words, including endnotes and references. Submissions in substantial excess of the word limit will not be considered for review.
Send three copies of the manuscript to: Democratic Communiqué, James Tracy, Editor, School of Communication and Multimedia Studies, Florida Atlantic University, 777 Glades Road GCS238, Boca Raton, FL 33431, USA. Authors whose work proceeds to peer review should be prepared to submit an identical electronic Microsoft Word file via email of their initial submission.
